Sidney Bennett Chesnin, December 15, 1942-March 15, 2022, age 79, passed away in Dallas, Texas. Beloved father to Debra Chesnin (Alex Tartakovsky) of Chicago, Illinois and grandfather to Leah Tartakovsky, step-grandfather to Samuel and Rebecca Tartakovsky, beloved brother to Harold Chesnin of Seattle, Washington, Nancy Coren (Charles) and Gary T'har Lev (Miri) of Jerusalem, Israel. Enjoyed being "Uncle Sid Bob" to 8 nieces and nephews. He was raised in Lincoln, Nebraska, the oldest child of Dr. Leon and Mrs. Esther Rae Chesnin.

Sid was known for his loyalty to family and friends as well as his intellect, dry sense of humor, and persistence. He rarely missed a family event or high school reunion. He was class valedictorian at age 16 and won a full scholarship to any college in the country. He went to the University of Chicago for his BA, Yale for his MA in political science, and University of Chicago for law school. He was fluent in seven languages, including Arabic, which he used for his master's thesis on Egyptian water rights.

After joining the army in 1968, Sid served as a captain and paratrooper in the 509th airborne, second division. He was stationed in Mainz, Germany and traveled all around Europe. Later, he served in the army reserves for many years. Sid found his time in the army to be very exciting and was a member of many veterans' organizations.

An ace trial attorney, Sid won almost all of his trials. He dedicated much of his career to helping the underdog and championing civil rights through Legal Aid Chicago and later as a trial attorney for the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Sid was very generous with his legal skills and took pro bono cases for his friends and family for his entire life.

Sid enjoyed fun and excelled at any hobby he decided to try, including sailing, dancing, horseback riding, playing pool, and target shooting. Burial in Lincoln, NE on Sunday, March 20, 2022, at Mt. Carmel cemetery with a celebration of life to be held in Dallas, Texas at a later date. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Legal Aid Chicago.
