Phyllis Yutkin Brenner was born June 2, 1938 in Brooklyn, New York to Anne and Leonard Yutkin. Phyllis went to Case Western Reserve University where she met her husband, Bernard Brenner at a Hillel mixer. The two married in 1959, and Phyllis began teaching elementary school in New Jersey. With her husband being in the Air Force, she moved several times before reaching their final posting in Wichita Falls in 1974.

Phyllis and her husband opened Brenner's Village Square restaurant in 1976. Phyllis continued running the restaurant until 1979 even with the passing of Bernie in 1978. Phyllis then went on to get her real estate broker's license and Master's degree in Art History. Finally, in 1985, Phyllis returned to her first passion, teaching. Phyllis taught Social Studies at Crocket Elementary until she retired in 2002.

Since retiring, she and her longtime companion, Gary Taylor, traveled the US and Europe. They enjoyed spending time with their family, friends, and menagerie of dogs. The freedom of retirement provided them the time needed to get to really enjoy life and visit with her daughters and grandchildren.

Phyllis is survived by her companion of 35 years, Gary Taylor, her three daughters, Deborah Saari and her husband

ecca Lennard and her husband Bob, and her four grandchildren, Drew, Amanda, Rachel, and Benjamin.

I am shocked and saddened to hear of your mother’s passing. I remember fondly working with her at House of Jacob functions and talking about our teaching experiences. I will keep you girls in my prayers.
I would to have your addresses to send a card. Email me at
