Nathan Aaron Finkelstein, 94, was born on August 30, 1921 in Oakdale, Louisiana to Marx and Rose Finkelstein. At 6 years old, the family fled to Houston, in the middle of the night, to escape a burning flag on their front yard by the KKK.
Nathan is survived by Evelyn, his beloved wife of 70+ years, children, Mark and Marlene Finkelstein, Larry Finkelstein and Anna Billingsley, Lynette Borrel and Steven Smith. 6 grandchildren, Desiree Finkelstein and Brandon Phillips, Lauren Finkelstein, Amy and Adam Mincberg, Michael and Mariel Borrel, Melissa and Danny Gutman and Melanie Finkelstein and Joseph Lipp. One great grandchild, Charlie Mincberg.

He is also survived by Sophie Finkelstein, Pauline and Ed Sheinberg, Haskell Sheinberg and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nathan married the love of his life on October 15th, 1944 and within 2 days was off to Japan as a member of the US Army fighting on the front lines in WWII. He was honorably discharged 2 years later. His love and passion for his country never wavered.

Nathan passed away on the 1st day of 5776, one month shy of his 71st wedding anniversary to his "Bride" "Bodie". Nathan and Evelyn were proud founding, lifetime members of Congregation Emanu El. He loved sharing birthdays, holidays and special occasions with his family and never left a table without telling everyone to take care of each other and may g-d bless them. Family was everything to him.

Nathan and Evelyn loved to travel at every possible opportunity throughout their marriage and especially loved to gamble ANYWHERE there was a slot machine. If you asked him, he never lost. His passion for teaching everyone about the stock market was fascinating and you never questioned his ability to mathematically figure anything.

Nathan's had a strong commitment to his job as Head Purchasing Agent for Weingarten's Grocery Stores where he retired after 49 years of service. He proudly served as President of the Allied Food Dealers Association for many years and sat on numerous boards and committees. His proud "claim to fame" was designing, creating and printing the first Hurricane Tracking Chart and Safety Information on a paper grocery bag. It is still used today throughout the gulf coast.

Nathan was greatly loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
